The original of the species, almost, dressed on a tube! It is not very often that a fly appears on the scene which has such a dramatic effect on the minds of fisherman. All one has to do is read the angling report of any river throughout Ireland or Britain and it will be seen that this fly will feature more regularly than any other. Many say that it is because everybody fishes them, but that has also been the case for a very good reason, success ! Based on the colours of shrimps which were examined by Ally Gowans, this fly has a proven popularity on a world-wide basis, and justifiably so. Suited very well to fast and streamy water, due to its ability to maintain it's shape and a long and flowing tail, this fly has few equals. It has spawned many colour variants, including the Cascade, Yellow, Silver , Tumell and Special.

Scotland has been the birthplace of many, many great patterns over the past 200 years or so. The Green Highlander, which began life as a fully dressed classic Atlantic Salmon Fly is now probably one of the best known Salmon flies in the world. A pattern originally from the Kyle of Sutherland, this fly has gained great popularity throughout Scotland, Ireland and England. It is unusual in the fact that it has a copper coloured body which is very effective in coloured water and in the back end of the season. Its striking colour scheme of Black, Copper and Hot Orange has proven to be a god taker of fish, particularly in spate systems and other rivers that carry a bit of colour.

Space restrictions dictate the little that we can say about this pattern compared to what could be said about it ! It is a Salmon fly of the highest order and a Sea Trout Fly which has very few peers. With its classical hairwing silhouette, J.C. cheeks and bright holographic Silver body, this fly fishes in an extraordinarily wide array of water conditions and colours. Smaller sizes are excellent for Sea Trout and Grilse in summer low water conditions whereas the larger sizes are excellent in the late Spring and early Autumn times.

This is a Gold bodied version of the famous Willie Gunn, that most versatile of Salmon patterns. The addition of the Gold body improves the visibility of this otherwise sober-appearing fly without overly-decorating what is in essence a classical pattern.
